A lot of good ideas in the business world come from some entrepreneurs’ personal needs, and GFF is one of those. I've worked out since I was a kid, and I've always wanted to know how I was doing as compared to other people. Was my mile time good? Was I stronger than the other young men (when I was young) or old men (when I was no longer a kid).
Even simple things like figuring out how my bench press compared to others wasn't easy; some places tell you what a "good" bench press is or mile time, but they don't define "good", or how they arrived at that number. Other times, like at LA Fitness, they just seem to pull numbers out of a hat. So I created the exercisebenchmarks.com site.
Even if you can find good comparisons for specific exercises it doesn't really tell you what kind of shape of overall shape you're in. Bench press has nothing to do with cardio fitness, and running has nothing to do with strength. So I created the GFF series of 4 exercises to measure total functional fitness; pushups for upper body strength, plank leg lifts for core, squats for leg and glute strength, and the run for cardio. All of these done together give a great workout, and also a great idea of overall fitness.
