I Got The Limelight

I Got The Limelight: What It Means To Be The Face of Global Fast Fit In Uganda
I got the limelight.
I was the face of Global Fast Fit. The ambassador. The Country Manager. And I carried that respect to different spaces.
Doors were opened before me.
My name was mentioned at fight nights because GFF is a proud sponsor of COBAP Boxing Club, one of the strongest boxing clubs in Uganda. And there I was, seated before audiences, officials, and fans of the boxing sport. Not because I am a champion boxer, but because I represented a brand that believed in the Lubya ghetto, in Kampala, in Uganda.
The challenges would shrink and a feeling of stardom and importance would zoom out into spaces that I went into.
It is a great feeling, especially when you're delivering on what is required of you by GFF and being relevant to the partner and collaborator.
What GFF Allowed Me To Build
Because people recognize people, those things we built are recognized as Sanyu's projects, even when I explain how GFF chose to do the work. They'd openly tell you, "We know you because you brought GFF to us."
And what did we build together?
1. From Zero to a Centre: We launched GFF in Uganda from zero and established the COBAP/GFF Community Center in Lubya community a Kampala City suburb. Today, GFF has a physical address in Uganda, not just an idea on Zoom. It remains the only lasting physical asset of GFF in Uganda, and it was built on trust, supervision, and presence.
2. The UBF Partnership: We initiated collaboration with Uganda Boxing Federation. One meeting opened the entire federation. Sitting for hours in their offices — in Uganda, powerful presence, not powerful manifesto, gains support and it paid off. Today GFF is respected in boxing circles because we showed up.
3. People Who Grew: I recommended Brenda as a sponsored athlete and Jonathan as both athlete and staff. Both were accepted. Today they are part of the story. That is what happens when leadership listens. When you bring top notches and they are embraced.
4. Mobilization Power: When we were facilitated, we mobilized 40+ athletes for the GFF Challenge. Lubya came alive. That day proved what is possible when vision and facilitation meet.
5. A Name That Opens Doors: The COBAP/GFF Community Center is called "Sanyu's project" in Lubya. At fight nights, they mention GFF. At community meetings, they ask for GFF. That is brand equity.
A Message To My Fellow GFF Team — Across Kenya, Uganda, India, Indonesia, Thailand, China, USA.
If you are working with GFF, look in the direction of being lifted to heights by GFF and not be critical of the company.
I have seen many people focus on what GFF has not done. I choose to focus on what GFF has made me become.
GFF gave me a platform that my CV alone could never give me. A global name in a local slum. It turned my courtesy, my rich network, my ability to sit, listen, and connect, into global value. It paid me on time when it mattered most. It supported my recommendations. It gave me insurance when my back failed me. It once paid an extra 200k for a second nanny so I could stay a full day at work. Those things matter.
Yes, building an organization in Africa is hard. Transport fails, power is shared on one Yaka (power) meter, internet drops, rain makes Lubya impassable. Yes, priorities shift. Yes, targets are high.
But every company that is going somewhere shifts. Every dream that is big demands more.
If you carry the brand with pride, the brand will carry you. If you sell the benefit to the partner, the partner will open doors for you.
Don't stand outside the company throwing stones at it while you are inside it. Carry it. Let it lift you. Let the limelight that GFF puts on you shine into rooms you could never enter alone.
When you walk into Lubya and mothers greet you because their children have a safe space to exercise, when coaches call you because they want their club to be part of something global, when a young boxer says "I want to be like the GFF athletes" — you realize you are not just managing a program. You are carrying hope.
Thank you John Groom, you have a dream and it is worth catching and accelerating to new levels. I am grateful to Bryan, your calmness is incredible even when the tensions seem high when there are deliverables that I have not met yet. Sean, you encouraged me and I still have plans to be in Thailand some day. Powerful and technical Prudhvi, I know for a fact that you have done a lot of incredible stuff behind the curtains. Thank you Team Kenya, Doctor James Muchiri and Abigail you fired me up and Uganda took off.
Global Fast Fit gave me that hope to carry.
The centre remains. The partnerships remain. The name remains mentioned at fight nights, in fitness centres around Kampala where I was able to deliver the GFF message.
And I remain grateful that GFF chose me to be its face in Uganda.

Determination Has No Gender: Meet Sylvia of Soccer Stars Academy
Sanyu Roberts , Uganda Aug 20, 2026
Sylvia was supposed to start Secondary School at the beginning of 2026, but that didn’t happen. Right now she should be sitting her end-of-second-term exams, but instead she’s on the pitch, training in soccer.
She knelt to greet me, as is the custom in Uganda. It’s rare in Kampala, but her respect and her smile were genuine.
At 15, a girl out of school is vulnerable. But on the turf, Sylvia is fearless. Sprinting, turning, passing — you’d think it was a boy. She’s the only girl out there, and she plays like she belongs.
That’s exactly why I was at Soccer Stars Soccer Academy with Isaac, the Founder and Head Coach. We were there to introduce the Global Fast Fit Fitness Benchmark — GFF’s simple test to measure strength, speed, endurance, and agility but it takes discipline determination in young athletes.
The moment I explained the drill, Sylvia stepped forward. “Now,” she said. No fear. No excuses.
Coach Isaac gathered the teenagers to share their stories. Unlike big academies that charge hefty fees, Soccer Stars exists to lift children from the slums of Katwe, Kisenyi, and Kampala suburbs. Coach Isaac trains them and leverages their talent to secure school scholarships. Six girls have already gotten that chance and joined elite teams. Sylvia is still waiting for hers.
Then came the GFF test.
Sylvia ran the benchmark and scored 2:10 — two minutes and ten seconds.
In GFF, we don’t just record times. We look for heart.
And Sylvia showed it.
GFF is about determination. It’s about showing up when no one expects you to. It’s about a 15-year-old girl choosing the ball over idleness, training over risk, and hope over circumstances.
At Global Fast Fit, we believe every child deserves a chance to be tested, to be seen, and to be supported. Sylvia reminded us why we do this work.
Congratulations, Sylvia. The benchmark is just the beginning.
From Addiction to Fitness: My Journey of Transformation
Sanyu Roberts , Uganda Oct 14, 2025 1
As a child, life was full of excitement and adventure. But beneath the surface, I knew something wasn't quite right. I felt trapped in a world that wasn't mine, with boundaries that seemed suffocating. Suicidal thoughts crept in during my darkest moments, and at 11 years old, I attempted to take my own life. I know now that I wasn't alone in this struggle.
As I grew older, my desire for freedom led me down a path of experimentation. I started smoking opium at 13 and soon found myself addicted. The next 10 years were a blur of substance abuse and living on the streets. I felt lost and alone, with no clear direction or purpose.
But something inside me refused to give up. I stumbled upon fitness in my early 20s, and it changed everything. Exercise became my coping mechanism, my escape from the darkness. It took discipline and hard work, but I was determined to overcome my addiction.
Twenty years later, I'm proud to say that I've been able to replace my addiction with a passion for fitness. It's not just about physical health; it's about mental well-being too. Exercise has given me a sense of purpose and direction. I've been able to channel my energy into helping others, working with children in street situations for the past 15 years.
If you're struggling with addiction or feeling lost, know that there's hope. Fitness can be a powerful tool in your journey towards recovery. It's not about erasing the past but about building a better future.
Global Fast Fit is committed to empowering individuals to take control of their health and well-being. Join our community today and start your journey towards a stronger, healthier you.
